Completely Fill Each Box
Make sure you completely fill each box. This is one of the most important storage tips because it makes stacking boxes much easier. Boxes that are only partially filled have a tendency to collapse when stacked. Overstuffed boxes also make stacking more difficult because their shape becomes distorted.
Planning Is Essential
An essential part of any move is proper planning. Planning ahead will save you time and money. You need to plan where things will go inside the unit so that, if you need access to them, you won’t have to spend time rearranging things later. You’ll also want to plan for what you’ll be storing so that you can provide the proper storage conditions, particularly if climate controlled storage is necessary.
Inventory Documentation
A list of storage tips wouldn’t be complete without the advice of documenting all the items you’ll be placing into storage. It’s a good idea to label each box and record the contents. This makes moving out and unpacking much easier. We suggest numbering each box and writing it down on a sheet of paper or on a spreadsheet.
Speak To A Storage Professional
One of the most commonly overlooked self storage tips is actually calling to speak with an experienced professional. Our team has years of experience helping others. We’ve heard it all over the years and that experience is something you can leverage to your advantage. Got questions? We’ve got the answers!
Be Aware Of The Unit’s Ceiling Height
When planning for the size unit you’ll need, make sure you account for height of the ceiling. Many of our rooms have ceilings of eight feet. Underutilization of the unit is something proper planning will help you avoid. Tenants often fail to take self storage tips like this into consideration.
Hazardous Materials
Hazardous and combustable items (explosives, perishables, or liquids) are prohibited.
Parts Should Be Disassembled
Bed frames, table legs and other parts should be removed so that they are easier to move and take up less storage space.
Fragile Items
Wrap fragile items in plastic, paper, and bubble wrap
Mattresses and Box Springs
Mattresses and box springs should be stored on their sides.
Climate Controlled Units
Climate Controlled units provide the extra protection needed for delicates, clothing and irreplaceable items

Storage Tips Better Unit Organization
Our facility helps you reclaim lost space in the home that has effectively become a storage room. It’s time to get everything out of your house and into a storage unit. Renting a storage unit enables you to keep your possessions without having to get rid of them. The ideal way to declutter is to organize the unit so that it is clutter free.
Clear Paths Of Boxes
Don’t just throw your belongings haphazardly into your unit. Taking time to create paths of boxes makes it easy to access items you may need. Creating paths of boxes ensures you’ll make the most out of your storage unit.
Big And Small
Great organizational storage tips include planning your big and small item layout. Don’t just stuff your larger items into the back, you might need to access them more frequently. Small boxes tend to be heavier than larger ones so planning them as base is a good idea.
Storage Office Extension
You can create a storage unit that becomes an extension of your office or home office if you plan in advance. Most people don’t consider this and miss an opportunity. Great storage tips to accomplish this include: buying a filing cabinet, file boxes or a bookshelf. This goes a long way towards organizing your important papers and books in the storage unit.
